We enjoyed Kiel, the weather was amazing and we celebrated Philippes 40th birthday with cake and champagne, having fun in the water, building model boats and eating good food, it was perfect ❤
Monday 22nd we sailed through the Kiel canal, had a night at anchor in the canal, and a quick stop in Cuxhaven, before leaving 5.00 am with the right tide, destination France. But we could quickly see on the forecast that the wind wouldn’t be with us all the way to Calais in France, so we thought we would just go as long as it was working, and therefor we arrived in Oostende, Belgium on Friday. The trip went smooth, kids were happy (main thing on any longer sail), they were mostly listening to audio books and seeing movies. We had another insect attack, this time it was all kinds of insects, very disgusting. I stepped on a bee (luckily it did not manage to sting through my thick night-watch socks :)) And we off course had beautiful sunsets and in general an excellent mood. Good to be on the go again.
Lying at anchor in the Kiel canal, you feel the vibrations during the night from the tanker passing by! Noah enjoys the view entering the North sea, looking for seals, Alice is checking out new reading material 😀
We like Oostende, Belgium is cozy and charming. We went straight for the beach, and then strolled around inner city. And Noah finally found the surfboard he wanted to buy (it has taken 1, 5 years), so now he is ready to go and practice.
Wishing to do some sightseeing we hopped on the train to Bruges, and used the whole day exploring this medieval city, with amazing scenery, torture museum (giving the kids nightmares!) and way too many chocolate, beer and waffle shops.
Bruges is all about chocolate, beers and waffles ❤
We ended the day with a walk to the beach right next to the harbour here in Oostende. The wind is strong, and the sand is all over, but the seals are lying right behind the rocks taking a break from the roaring ocean. Full of gratefulness for travelling again together with my family ❤
